Our English Program

Our new English programme launched in 2007 in South Yarra. For many years parents have been begging us to use the same effective formula of our maths programs for English. We've taken our time to develop a wonderful English programme combining the best aspects of a phonics based approach with the whole language approach.

It covers reading, writing, spelling and comprehension all taught using the context of books written expressly for us.

Some of our tutors

Due to our growth, we have taken on a number of new tutors this term. We have been lucky to get some EXCELLENT mathematicians and English experts, and they have just completed their NumberWorks'nWords training.

Problem Solving - No Problem!

We have opened our Problem Solving Toolbox to face the PROBLEM head on! The most important thing we need for problem solving are strategies. Our new programme does just that.

At the end of last year we introduced brand new problem solving software to continue to enhance our students’ abilities to solve problems. Problem solving is not just about fixing a problem but also about using the most effective tool to do the job. The software encourages careful thought and organisation, showing workings and getting the right answer the right way.

Reading

Learning to read is one of the most important skills your child will develop in those early years of school.

Children who develop strong reading skills can easily access all other areas of the curriculum, and develop confidence in themselves as learners.
At NumberWorks’nWords we recognize the importance of this skill, and have developed a comprehensive programme that covers reading, comprehension, spelling and writing for students in their first year of school, through to those entering Secondary School.

Owner: Anne Sierakowski

Hi I'm Anne Sierakowski. I have been the owner and manager of NumberWorks'nWords South Yarra since its beginnings in 2000 and opened the Brighton centre in 2006. I have a Trained Primary Teachers Certificate, a Diploma of Teaching and a Bachelor of Education.

Amazingly, I have been in the teaching profession for over 30 years and still find it very rewarding. I get a lot of satisfaction in seeing the children at NumberWorks'nWords having fun and learning at the same time. To me, it is what education is all about. One of the most amazing things about NumberWorks'nWords is that children want to be here.

Outside of NumberWorks'nWords I enjoy an active life with tennis, cycling, walking, travelling, having fun with family and friends, learning french and occasionally find some time for skiing when there is snow!
