Like anything, you have to know what you are in for before you commit to it.

Students who at first are apprehensive about receiving help for their Maths/English are often surprised at how much fun learning can be. We pride ourselves on creating a fun, positive and nurturing atmosphere in our centre.

You are invited to come along and see for yourself what we have to offer. After our free evaluation in English and/or Maths we will discuss your child's strengths and weaknesses, and how we can tailor our programme to work best for your child.

If your child is lacking confidence, the solution may well be the fun and vibrant atmosphere of NumberWorks'nWords!

Tips for Term Two

Meet with your child’s teacher as soon as possible and make sure you discuss any concerns you have from the previous term.  Time and time again I meet parents who hold off, waiting to see how things go.  All of a sudden it’s Term 2 or 3 and their child has fallen into a really bad pattern.  They then have to play catch-up, and you’re more than half way through the year before things are being properly addressed. It is also a great opportunity to talk about the topics they will be covering and any aspects that we could support here at NumberWorks'nWords.

I must also add here that if you are considering tuition at NumberWorks'nWords the same applies.  It is much better to get your child support now and start the year solidly, than trying to play catch-up later in the year!
 More tips:

  • Letting the teacher know that you appreciate feedback on your child's progress-both positive and negative.
  • Research shows that children who are read to in their early years do better in school. Make reading a habit in your home, for both you and your child. This also applies to the essential maths skills, like counting, basic facts and tables.
  • Be encouraging and praise your child for the amount of effort that he or she puts into a project.
  • Be Prepared for Your First Parent-Teacher Conference
  • Schools + Communities = Success.  Look for specific ways that you can support your child's school. Volunteer a few hours a week in the classroom. Offer to speak to your child's class (or others) about a special hobby or area of expertise. Encourage a local business to adopt your child's school.

NAPLAN: Remember the National testing for Yr 3, 5, 7 and 9 is in mid May. We are busy preparing pupils with the necessary    skills to tackle these Literacy & Numeracy tests.
